THE Islington and Camden District football team got their season off to a flyer on Saturday with a confident 3-0 victory over Barnet in their opening fixture in the Middlesex Schools FA Compton Cup.

In their first ever competitive match together, the Under-13s side already looked every bit a united outfit as they dominated the contest with a superb display of possession football.

Goalkeeper Arlo Doherty and defenders Mason McBride and Trey Barrington provided a rock-solid platform at the back that enabled their team-mates to express themselves further up the pitch.

It was midfielder Luc Achermann-Stanfield that opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a neat finish. Adam Damaan doubled the advantage before Solomon Hamilton wrapped up the win late on.

Manager Jamie Houghton was delighted with the teams debut victory. “We knew we had a good group of players going into the game but we’d only seen them in training so we couldn’t be sure how they would perform on match day,” he said.

    “They surpassed all our expectations.”
