A SERIES of free football sessions with the aim of getting more young girls playing have proved so popular that organisers have extended them over the summer.

Coaches from the Camden and Islington Youth League, with support from the Islington Football Development Partnership, have been running sessions on Fridays between 6pm and 8pm since April.

It led to the league officially announcing a girls’ division from September, with 5v5 games being held on Friday nights and 7v7 games on Sunday mornings at Market Road in Islington.

Acerbis UK, sports outfits and equipment specialists, are supporting the initiative by agreeing to supply all teams who join the league with a new kit.

General League Secretary Karen Greene said: “Due to the huge success of the coaching sessions, we are pleased to announce we will continue to run them every Friday until July 22.

“We will then be kicking off our brand new girls’ league in September.”

Anyone wanting more details about the training sessions at Market Road, or the new Camden and Islington Girls Football Youth League, which are both open to girls aged six to 16 years of age, should call Karen on 07785 224 888 or email greener106@btinternet.com
