A CONSORTIUM of Camden GPs has been described as “trailblazing” by judges at an industry awards event.

Haverstock Healthcare (HHL) brings together 26 general practices from the borough in a not-for-profit organisation set up to compete for NHS contracts against big profit-making health companies.

The group operates the Urgent Care Centre in the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, which assesses non-emergency patients who come for treatment at the A&E.

It has not once breached the government’s four-hour maximum patient waiting time target nor had to use a locum in five years.

HHL won the British Medical Journal’s annual awards for clinical leadership team of the year.
