A WOMAN is being treated in hospital this afternoon (Friday) after a vintage sports car smashed through the front of a cafe in West Hampstead.

Emergency services rushed to scene in West End Lane shortly before 3pm and treated the victim for injuries to her leg.

It is unclear if the woman had been sitting in the cafe or passing on the pavement at the time of the collision. The car, a green Porsche, smashed through the window of Lena's Cafe 2.

Police said that two women were injured, adding that neither had “life changing or threatening injuries”.

Cllr Phil Rosenberg, who was running a drop-in surgery for residents at the nearby West Hampstead Library, said: “It's awful. I was in my surgery at the library and heard a big bang and some screaming. This car, although I didn't see this, had zig zagged across the road and trapped a woman under the wheel.

“Obviously my thoughts and prayers are with her, it was very serious. The car went straight into the cafe.”

A Met spokeswoman said: “Police are dealing with a road traffic collision in West End Road, Camden. Police were called at 14:53hrs on Friday, 20 January to reports that a Porsche car had collided with a shop. Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the scene.

“Two women were reported injured; neither had life changing or threatening injuries.

“Road closures are in place while emergency services deal. Enquiries continue.”
